Who should attend
Newly employed Restoration technicians and administration staff , in the probationary
period of their employment. This course will prepare them with the essential skills needed
to properly perform basic functions on water damaged environments, before attending an
IICRC 3-day WRT course.
Builders, IEP’s Insurance, brokering and adjusting staff that require an understanding of a
water restoration claim, without going into extensive details of how to perform water
restoration. Great for desk top adjusters and insurance / broker claims staff that have not
had any formal training in this area.
Course Materials
Course materials and handouts are provided prior to all course registrants prior to the
course commencement.
Course Format
Hands-on, instructor demonstrations, and video demonstrations pertinent to course topics,
plus PowerPoint and group discussion.
Introduction
- an understanding of IICRC S500 Water Restoration standard
- the importance of rapid response, how it can save time and money
- awareness of the categories of waters (i.e., Category 1, Category 2, Category 3,
Hazardous Regulated Materials and Mould) - identify the type of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the different categories
of water. The types of hazards associated water evets including slip and fall,
electrical, viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
Identify and discuss types of restoration equipment:
- air movers (e.g., centrifugal, radial, axial, interstitial air)
- air filtration devices (AFD) and filter types (e.g., particulate, VOC)
- dehumidifiers (e.g., refrigerants, desiccants)
- heat and cooling systems
- equipment placement and installation
- amount of equipment required and why?
Identify and discuss the different types of meters:
- why they are used to validate a water event
- moisture sensor
- non-penetrating moisture meters
- penetrating moisture meters
- thermo-hygrometers
- thermal imaging (IR) cameras
- Determining moisture migration in carpet, underlay, walls, ceilings and subfloor
Restoration Tools and Equipment – why are they used, when are they used?
- truck mount vs. portable.
- wands, tools
- reducing the drying time
- correct disposal of wastewater
This course has an Optional Exam:
- Priced at $50 aud
- Consists of 16 multiple-choice questions
- Administered via the IICRC online testing portal
- No books, notes, or mobile phones are allowed during the exam at any time
Note: Upon successful completion of this course and passing the exam you will earn a
Certificate of Training not a Certification.
